Our History:
Aquanauts Grenada was founded by Gerlinde & Peter Seupel in 1997 under the name of 1st Spice Divers Grenada. We started very small with one 10m/30 foot boat ”Spice Lady” at the Secret Harbor Hotel in Grenada, at that time owned by The Moorings. The refitted Sport-fisherman “Spice Lady” was our pride and joy, nicknamed by the competition the “coffee boat”, because we put our customers first from start on, served refreshments on the boat and offered amenities like fresh water shower, toilet, dive platform and other amenities. We continue that service today for our guests.
In 2000 we changed our name to Aquanauts Grenada, LTD to have an international better recognized name. We started to brand this new name at dive shows and in advertisements. In 2001 we began our expansion by moving our business to Rendezvous Beach & Dive Resort – the first diver dedicated resort on the Isle of Spice. Later that year the owners of Blue Horizon Cottage Hotel & Spice Island Beach Resort offered us the opportunity to operate their dive and water sports center on Grand Anse Beach. Of course more business meant we needed a larger boat, which we luckily found in “Calypso”. The first winter season on Grand Anse Beach was very busy, thus we decided we need one more boat.
In January of 2003 we got our Island Hopper, “SOCA”. We also invested in a new system and were the first to offer recreational NITROX on the island.
In spring of 2003 we started our relationship with True Blue Bay Resort, where we were welcomed warmly from the first day. The small start turned out to become a big center rather quickly. In late 2003 the Rendezvous Beach Resort was sold to a private Club. We then moved our main base to True Blue Bay Resort. This makes True Blue Bay Resort now the only diver dedicated resort in Grenada.
With growing demand, we added the US-built Seahawk boat “Salsa” to our fleet in spring of 2004. SCUBA dive groups and SCUBA dive packages with True Blue Bay Resort and Blue Horizons Cottage Hotel had become our business. Having a calendar full with bookings for the fall of 2004 and a good outlook for the upcoming season, we went ahead and refurbished our store at Grand Anse, increasing rental and retail space.
Today Aquanauts is not only the longest continuously in business dive center in Grenada under the same ownership but also the SCUBA dive operation leader on the island of Grenada. With our fleet of three custom dive boats, three large compressors, a NITROX system, top of the line SCUBAPRO rental equipment and two modern retail shops we are one of the most sophisticated dive centers in the Caribbean diving region. We take pride in serving costumers at the highest level.
In the effort to protect the environment; Aquanauts Grenada's’ crew installed and maintains moorings on Grenada’s dive sites, supports the Ocean Spirit Turtle Project and works on wreck and shark awareness programs. Regularly beach and underwater clean ups are organized under the patronage of Aquanauts with the participation of the local community and special awareness programs offered to school children.
We are looking into a bright future and are happy to welcome you to show you the beauty of our world under water!
